Images are compressed in your browser and never uploaded to a server. Location and camera data are removed from the results.
Every image is tried at several quality levels. The smallest version that still looks like the original is kept. Photos saved at high quality often shrink by half or more.
A JPEG stays a JPEG, a PNG stays a PNG, a WebP stays a WebP. Transparency and colour profiles are kept, so files work as drop-in replacements.
Because nothing is uploaded, there is no upload limit. How large an image can be depends only on the memory of your device. Very large images take a little longer.
Set a maximum width to scale large images down for the web. The aspect ratio is kept and smaller images are never enlarged.
